Mountain goats
of Kodiak, Alaska
While Kodiak is famous for its Sitka black-tailed deer, the island is also home to thriving populations of mountain goats. With their striking white coats and preference for rugged terrain, these goats are one of Alaska’s most exciting game animals to pursue.
Originally introduced to Kodiak in 1952, mountain goats have flourished — and today their numbers are strong enough to offer excellent hunting opportunities.
At this time, over the counter tags for mountain goats are limited to Alaska Residents ONLY.
Why Hunt Goats on Kodiak?
-
With no wolves on the island, deer numbers are consistently strong, rebounding quickly even after harsh winters.
-
Typical goats weigh 120–170 lbs, with some billies recorded at 245 lbs.
-
These hunts combine world-class mountain landscapes with the comfort of returning to The Valiant each night.
-
Regulations adjust with population levels, but goat numbers remain high enough to provide excellent chances for harvest.
